He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
And fill’d all the stockings; then turn’d with a jerk,
Santa is definitely an industrious fellow, getting his work done in short order. He has lots of houses to visit on Christmas Eve, and can’t waste a moment!
When we read the account of man’s creation in Genesis, we see some commonalities between Santa’s work ethic and God’s purpose for humans:
Genesis 2:15 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
God explicitly tells us we are to “work” and “take care” in our work. Work should not be done in haste or without excellence, but with care.
Colossians 3:23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,
Christmas is a terrific time to practice working for the Lord rather than man.
We have responsibilities galore, and it all gets overwhelming. We want to complain because everyone needs our time, talents, and money.
If we remember, our efforts are a pleasing aroma to the Lord that honors him, and we put our whole heart into it because he is Lord and Savior…everything changes, including our attitude!
Proverbs 6:6-8 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.
Indeed the ant is a wise and intelligent worker. He works at the proper time and has provisions when he needs them. If the tiny ant is a wise worker, we can be sure this is expected of us as well!
