Day #6 Hold it together!

Away to the window I flew like a flash,
Tore open the shutters, and threw up the sash.

The sash is the part of the window that holds the glass and slides up and down vertically. It holds everything together and makes the window work.

A sash in fashion is a band of fabric worn around the waist or across the body from shoulder to hip and ties the whole outfit together.

So sashes are pretty important in windows and fashion. But what does this have to do with anything?

The sash in our life is God. He is central and holds everything together and makes it work. Without him, we fall apart and nothing works right. Oh sure…we can try but it would be like trying to open a window when it’s only a piece of glass in the wall. Not gonna happen.

What are you trying to force open in your life? Like a window without a sash? Sometimes it is just one area where we want to do it ourselves. We don’t like where God seems to be leading, yet we really think we can do it better. Astounding we would have a better outcome than the creator of the universe. But, that’s us humans for ya.

This Christmas, invite Jesus into all areas of your life, to hold them together and make them work properly.

When you hang the Christmas lights around your window, think of the sash in our poem, and the sash in our life, Jesus, born in a manger, in the little town of Bethlehem on that night long ago. Born to hold you together, hold you up, and hold you tight throughout your whole life until you met face to face one day!

SURPRISE PRESENT

WINDOW CRAFT!

This beautiful window decor is the inspiration for our waxed paper window decorations!

The photos below show the process.

Fold a sheet of wax paper in half.

Open and shave color crayons with a potato peeler or cheese grater.

Refold and cover with a paper towel.

Iron with a medium temp. iron, checking frequently to see when wax has melted.

Cut the wax paper into Christmas shapes and use a hole punch to hang.

My daughter and I did this mock up in just a few minutes late at night for the photos, so it is really easy!

You could use a ribbon or tinsel garland (or whatever is handy) to hang your wax paper shapes across the window.

This thin ribbon is nice because it’s easy to tie a bow at the top where you hang the shapes.

Shape ideas:

Christmas tree

star

bell

candy cane

candle

mitten

stocking

ornament

gingerbread man

dove

angel

reindeer

santa hat

(Several shape templates are included at the bottom for you to choose from if free-handing it is stressful, just print and trace.)

Get creative and explore ideas…maybe add some tiny candy canes dangling down. Just be sure to pick a window that has some morning light so you can enjoy your sweet kids art with the sun shining through and illuminating the wax.

See you tomorrow on Day #7…can’t wait!
