With a little old driver, so lively and quick, I knew in a moment it must be St. Nick.
At this point in our story, Papa was looking out the window into the dark blue snowy night. He instantly recognized St. Nick far in the distance by his obvious characteristics, even in these unusual circumstances.
Pa saw he was in charge of the sleigh, as the driver, which should have been sliding in freshly fallen snow but was high in the sky! He was not a bit surprised as he knew St. Nick defied earthly physics. He could see he was full of life and energy, swift and clever.
When you look out into the dark night of this earth, do you see Jesus or just the darkness?
Do you know him well enough to recognize his characteristics? Are they obvious to you?
Do you easily forget Jesus is not bound by the things he created? Are you surprised when he works in your life? Do you expect him to work in your life?
Do you know Jesus is not just full of energy but he is the way, the truth and the life, and the light of the world?
Do you know Jesus is not just swift and clever, but omnipotent (having unlimited power and the ability to do anything)?
When our wondering eyes fall upon the things of this earth, we should always strive to see Jesus and recognize his glorious characteristics and supreme love for us. The more we get to know him, the easier it is to see him.
Spend time this Christmas getting to know Jesus better. Pray, study the Bible, and sing Christmas carols! They are full of beautiful lyrics that speak the truth of Jesus and point us to him!
